June 26, 2026, Winnipeg: Express Medical Care strengthens its commitment to shaping the community’s future by continuing the You Drug Mart and Express Medical Care Award. This is scholarship they have proudly offered since 2020. They increased the amount this year to further support promising young minds who are driven to give back. The 2026 recipient of this award is Elmwood High School graduate Luke Coben. Coben aspires to step into the world of healthcare with the support of the very community that shaped him.
As a locally owned and operated pharmacy and clinic, You Drug Mart and Express Medical Care have always believed in giving back to the families, neighbours, and patients who have supported them from the beginning. This scholarship is part of the clinic’s broader mission to invest in education, opportunity, and long‑term community wellbeing. Supporting students like Luke — especially those pursuing careers in science and healthcare — strengthens the future of care in Winnipeg. It also ensures that the next generation of professionals is empowered to succeed.
Luke plans to attend the University of Manitoba, and aspires to become either a nurse or a pharmacist. Both the roles reflect his passion for improving public health and his desire to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of his community.
“Luke Coben isn’t just a scholarship recipient — he represents the next generation of caregivers emerging from Elmwood,” says Andrew Chubey, director, Express Medical Care.
Alongside the You Drug Mart & Express Medical Care Award, Luke also received the Kildonan MCC Award of Promise, a distinction that further underscores his exceptional potential and the deep confidence his community places in his future.
Luke’s favourite memories from Elmwood High School come from his time in Concert Band, performing at school events. He also cherishes connecting with the community through music. These experiences shaped his sense of belonging and reinforced his desire to give back. He also credits his brother, Rule, for supporting him throughout high school — especially with homework.
Luke’s journey reflects the best of Elmwood: resilience, community spirit, and a desire to make a difference. The clinic and pharmacy are proud to support him at this pivotal moment. They want to ensure the next generation of caregivers begin their path with confidence and encouragement. It also ensures a strong connection to the community they will one day serve. “Our patients, families, and neighbours are at the heart of everything we do. Investing in the community’s future is a natural extension of our mission to provide care and support,” says Jas, owner You Drug Mart. “By offering a scholarship to a student at Elmwood High School, we hope to encourage and support the next generation as they pursue further education in healthcare. We understand that access to education is a key stepping stone toward building a healthy, and thriving community,” adds Jas.
You Drug Mart & Express Medical Care Award offers a scholarship of $1500 to respectful students showing an exceptional drive to give back. Grade 12 Elmwood High School students pursuing a science degree qualify with an instructor’s recommendation. They must score at least 85% in pre‑calculus math, chemistry, and physics or biology.
